It is a pity to learn from news that the health of the Blessing Tree in Tai Po had deteriorated and would probably die in 5 to 10 years' time, despite all the measures and effort of the Government to save it.
The Blessing Tree has been harassed by its believers and villagers for years. They threw and hang all kinds of stuff (the so-called lucky flyers) on its branches, which became so heavy that last year one of its branches broke and fell down. Since then the Government prohibited (finally) the throwing of lucky flyers and some protective measures were imposed. However, it was already too late. The tree decided that it has had enough and wanted to enjoy permanent peace by dying slowly.
The fate of the Blessing Tree reminds me of our mother Nature. For years human being have been exploiting the environment to an extent that the Earth finally get sick. Symptoms have already appeared: global warming, destruction of the ozone layer......etc. Although some countries have taken certain measures (well, I guess...) to try to limit the release of green house gases, will it be too late for nature to recover, just like the Blessing Tree?
